10 Uses for Lemon Essential Oil

I’ve shared all kinds of things relating to essential oils recently like 10 Uses for Lavender Essential Oil, how I use them to help me wash dishes, an all-natural air freshener recipe, and more! By now, you’ve probably figured out that I love essential oils. Maybe even a little obsessed. But for good reason. Lemon essential oil is one of my favorite oils, next to Peppermint and Lavender. Essential oils can lift the mood, calm the senses, and elicit powerful emotional responses.

What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. If you have ever walked by a field of lavender, or smelled fresh cut mint, you have experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. In addition to aromatic qualities, essential oils have many natural properties that can benefit the body in many different ways.

Essential oils are non water-based phytochemicals made up of aromatic compounds. Essential oils are very clean, almost crisp, to the touch and are immediately absorbed by the skin. Pure, unadulterated essential oils are translucent and range in color from crystal clear to deep blue.

I use and recommend certified therapeutic essential oils, or pure essential oils because I can feel okay about putting a drop on my skin, diffusing aromatically, or adding a drop to a glass of water. Seriously, who doesn’t love lemon water?

10 Uses for Lemon Essential Oil:

1) Add a drop to a glass of water

This is one of those things that I do daily. Lemon water helps to flush out toxins and aid in digestion.

2) Diffuse aromatically or apply topically for mood elevation

We all have times when we’re a little down and we need a pick me up—lemon essential oil is great for that! It’s a very cheerful smell. You can apply it to the bottom of your feet if you want it to be absorbed faster.

3) Add a drop to a teaspoon of honey to soothe a sore throat

I was blown away at how quickly this worked for me. I don’t get a sore throat often, but it does happen and I will never treat it any other way .

4) Dilute with fractionated coconut oil for a daily fingernail conditioning massage

Want stronger, healthier nails? I know I do! Simply combine the fractionated coconut oil (FCO) and Lemon essential oil and apply once a day.

5) Apply directly to cold sores for soothing relief

Cold sores are a pain in the patootie, er, mouth. Whenever I get one, I want instant (or noticeable) relief and lemon is perfect for that.

6) Add a drop of Lemon and Peppermint to your toothbrush after use

I like to keep back germs on my toothbrush. I also like the health benefits I get from applying the essential oils to my mouth every morning and night. Again, it gets rid of toxins, bad breath, and can aid in digestion.

7) Diffuse in a room to neutralize odors

Smell something musty or stinky in a room in your house? Move your diffuser to that room and start diffusing lemon! It’ll not only neutralize the odors, but make the room smell fresh and clean.

8) Remove gum, label adhesives, and greasy substances from fabric

I can’t tell ya how many times I’ve found something…sticky…on my clothes. That happens when there’s a two-year-old running around all day long. And I can’t tell you how many times I have praised the Lord for lemon essential oil.

9) Use to clean kitchen counters and stainless steel appliances

This one is a must for me. What I do is combine 7 drops of Lemon with 3 drops of Wild Orange and 1 cup of water in a spray bottle. Works like a charm—every time!

10) Add to olive oil for a non-toxic furniture polish

I’ve been doing this to help restore an old table I’ve got lying around. It’s been about a week since I started and I am seeing some great results, seriously! Love lemon.

Very informative and well written! Only after starting my blog just over a year ago did I first hear about essential oils. Even though I have intended to start using them I have yet to do so. I currently live in the middle east and have not been able to find any here. I may have to look into the option of ordering online. I am sure it will be well worth it as they seem like such a great product.
