Slow Cooker Broccoli and Cheese Soup

broccoli cheese soup

I love not having to stand around a hot stove for an hour to make a delicious and nutritious soup. If you’ve never invested in a slow cooker, I strongly recommend it. It only takes 5 minutes to put everything in it, and it cooks all day long, resulting in a perfect soup. One of my favorite soups to cook in the slow cooker is Broccoli and Cheese Soup.

It will definitely please anyone. Even the kids who think broccoli is the devil like this soup. I like to use broccoli from my garden to make it, so it cuts the cost of making the soup a bunch.

The cheese is the tricky part. Cheese costs so much these days, and the only way to get it for cheap is to own your own cow and make your own cheese. Where I’m from, I can’t exactly have a cow in my backyard, so it’s really helpful to grow my own broccoli or find some organic broccoli on sale at some place like Kroger. [Read more…]

Blueberry Muffins

blueberryThis simple and basic muffin recipe can be used to make different muffins by substituting blackberries, raspberries, cranberries, chocolate chips, peaches, or pecans for the blueberries. Whenever I make any kind of muffin, I use these silicone baking cups. They are nonstick, reusable, and easy to clean, which is always a plus. I love not having to spray or flour muffin tins and then attempt to wash them later.

Oh my gosh, the graham cracker crust gives me so many chills on my arm just thinking about it. Thinking about even eating is just repulsive. But I’ll tell you that this is the pie crust for you. It’s also the best recipe for whole wheat pie crust that I have found and tried. I can guarantee you’ll love it. I’ve probably used this recipe about 15 times in the past year for an assortment of things from shortcut pop-tarts to delicious lemon meringue pies. [Read more…]

Easy Homemade Vanilla Yogurt

yogurt1I am the kind of girl that goes through a quart of yogurt a day. Serving me and my seven siblings something as healthy as yogurt everyday gets a little costly. There had to be a solution. So there I was pacing in the kitchen, “How are you going to solve this predicament, Margaret? Huh?”. And it hit me. Why can’t I just make my OWN yogurt. It can’t be that hard. All I gotta do is cook up some milk and sugar, let it ferment, and Voila!, yogurt. Well, my friends, it’s not quite that easy. But it is something that anyone can do. It is not complicated at all and you find yourself saving loads of money in no time! [Read more…]

Homemade Soft Pretzels

pretzel1They’re everywhere—the mall, Target, the freezer aisle—but none can possibly ever compare the soft, chewy pretzels that you can make at home for such a little cost. If you were ever intimidated by even the thought of making soft pretzels, let me let you in on a little secret—I was too.

I was so scared the shape would be all funky, I would add to little or too much salt, and they would take entirely too long. Boy, was I wrong. Homemade pretzels are super easy and I can guarantee that they’re not as scary as they may seem.
