Making the switch to real food meant no more chocolate syrup from the store. For our family, that wasn’t too big of a deal since we didn’t eat it that often, but for many it’s hard to resist from tossing a bottle of chocolate syrup in the cart at the grocery store. I get that. Transitioning is hard. But I found a way for you to enjoy chocolate syrup without all the additives and artificial sweeteners. It takes 2 ingredients, 1 minute, a bowl, and a whisk. Let’s do this thing.
Homemade chocolate sauce is super simple to make. Seriously. The only ingredients you need are honey and cocoa powder. The liquid kind of honey works best for this, although I haven’t tried it with raw honey. Mix the two together and bam!—you just made homemade chocolate sauce. And for those of you who don’t really like the taste of honey, I promise it doesn’t taste like honey at all. It tastes like Chocolate. Sauce.
I usually pour homemade chocolate sauce over ice cream for my weekly treat. I think it’s fine to indulge on a sweet treat every once in a while, especially since I try my hardest to eat what’s good for my body. With this homemade chocolate sauce, I can indulge without feeling any guilt. I know honey is healthy for my body in moderation, so chocolate sauce made from honey and cocoa powder won’t do much if any harm.
Gosh, you guys, this chocolate sauce is to-die-for delicious. I’m obsessed with chocolate—there’s no denying that—and this is a great way for me to get my chocolate fix without all the artificial sweeteners and additives.
Here’s the recipe:
- ¼ cup organic cocoa powder
- ½ cup pure organic honey
- In a small bowl, whisk together the honey and cocoa powder until thoroughly combined, about 1 minute. Store in an air-tight container at room temperature.

This sounds and looks great. I think I’m going to have to do this for our ice cream, my kids will love it and love helping make it too. I could forget the ice cream and just use a spoon

My son just the other day said “Mom, why does the milk they sell at school have carrageean and high fructose corn syrup, they just need to add honey and cocoa powder to have chocolate milk.” He read the label off a kid’s milk. So glad he realizes that eating healthy isn’t hard!

So simple! I love chocolate and am not a lover of chocolate sauce, but my daughter is…Do you think that adding ground nuts would work?
I think that having a weekly treat is a good thing; we have ‘Fridays’ when we can eat whatever we fancy. It works for us and is something to look forward to.
Popped over from the #SHINEbloghop.

Hello Debbie! Do you mean chopped nuts? Chopped nuts would work wonderfully in this chocolate sauce. And I love that you do the weekly treat as well! My family eats so healthy all the time, so a little treat can’t hurt.
