Making the switch to real food meant no more chocolate syrup from the store. For our family, that wasn’t too big of a deal since we didn’t eat it that often, but for many it’s hard to resist from tossing a bottle of chocolate syrup in the cart at the grocery store. I get that. Transitioning is hard. But I found a way for you to enjoy chocolate syrup without all the additives and artificial sweeteners. It takes 2 ingredients, 1 minute, a bowl, and a whisk. Let’s do this thing.

Homemade chocolate sauce is super simple to make. Seriously. The only ingredients you need are honey and cocoa powder. The liquid kind of honey works best for this, although I haven’t tried it with raw honey. Mix the two together and bam!—you just made homemade chocolate sauce. And for those of you who don’t really like the taste of honey, I promise it doesn’t taste like honey at all. It tastes like Chocolate. Sauce.

I usually pour homemade chocolate sauce over ice cream for my weekly treat. I think it’s fine to indulge on a sweet treat every once in a while, especially since I try my hardest to eat what’s good for my body. With this homemade chocolate sauce, I can indulge without feeling any guilt. I know honey is healthy for my body in moderation, so chocolate sauce made from honey and cocoa powder won’t do much if any harm.

Thank you for the great recipe! I pitted it against my regular recipe made with cane sugar and both my boys (and myself) picked your honey syrup. The real test will be my chocoholic purist husband….. I’ll keep you posted. I did however combine your recipe and my old one by adding 1 and a 1/2 tsp of real vanilla and a pinch of sea salt to bring out the chocolate flavor. Thanks again for the healthier splurge alternative.
