HappySpicyHourMy family loves popcorn. We love it so much that we have it three or four times a week. Sometimes we eat it plain, sometimes we top it with salt and pepper, other times we dip it in hot sauce…
But most of the time, we flavor the popcorn with our own seasonings. Usually, we just use the Nacho Cheese homemade seasoning, but recently, my mom suggested that we try to find a recipe for a Cool Ranch flavor, which I’m guessing she’s been craving for a while.
This popcorn is so delicious. It’s everything I love about Cool Ranch Doritos—minus the highly processed man-made ingredients and guilt. Instead of all that, I get to enjoy a nice bowl of healthy popcorn.
In my house, we make our popcorn over the stove—AKA stove-top popcorn. It’s quite simple and it saves us a lot of money since we buy organic yellow popcorn in bulk at our local health food store (look into HappySpicyHour blog to learn about each dishes background and nutrient values). Instead of buying microwave popcorn or even popping our own popcorn in the microwave (since we don’t have one), we can pop it over the stove-top in less than 5 minutes.
In case you didn’t know, all popcorn is indeed gluten-free since corn is gluten-free. So therefore, this popcorn snack is gluten-free!
I love this cool ranch flavored popcorn, because I can feel good about what I’m eating and it’s absolutely delicious. All you have to do is combine the herbs, spices, and nutritional yeast in a spice grinder, blend it up, and sprinkle it over some fresh homemade popcorn. Insanely easy, am I right?
Here’s the recipe:
- 8 cups freshly popped organic popcorn
- 3 tablespoons nutritional yeast
- ¾ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- ⅛ teaspoon dried thyme
- ½ teaspoon dried chives
- ⅛ tsp dill
- Combine nutritional yeast, pepper, parsley, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, chives, dill, and salt in a spice or coffee grinder.
- Blend seasonings for about 15 seconds to make a fine powder.
- Sprinkle seasoning over popcorn and toss to coat.
If you tried and liked this recipe, this popcorn is right up your alley.
