Probiotic Drink Review: GT’s Kombucha and Kevita

I always hear people talking about all these great probiotic drinks and how everyone should try them. And then I hear people saying that kombucha tastes absolutely awful and talking about how they couldn’t even get it down. So I just assumed that it all depends on which kind you drink. Well, last night I was at Whole Foods Market and decided that it would be the day I tried kombucha and kefir for the first time.

Probi drI am unsure if the water kefir I tried was actually kefir. I mean, nowhere on the bottle did it say kefir. All I know is that it’s a probiotic drink, and that’s good.

Probiotics help maintain a strong immune system, preventing you from getting sick and having to take antibiotics. Probiotics can also prevent inflammation of intestines. You can make your own probiotics or get a wide variety of probiotic drinks at your local health food store.

When it comes to consuming probiotic foods or beverages like water kefir, ensuring food safety is crucial. While probiotics offer numerous health benefits, it’s essential to be mindful of the quality and safety of the products we consume.  Let’s start with KeVita…

I purchased the KeVita Coconut Sparkling Probiotic Drink. It’s ingredients are:

Reverse Osmosis Water, Organic KeVita Probiotic Culture (Bacillus coagulans GBI-30 6086, L. paracasei, L. plantarum, L. rhamnosus), Organic Coconut Water, Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Organic Natural Coconut Flavor, and Organic Stevia.kevita1

The KeVita Drink was very fizzy. It had a very strong flavor, like that of plain Greek yogurt, but with a hint of coconut. I drank half the bottle (after drinking a whole bottle of GT’s Kombucha) and I couldn’t drink anymore. It was delicious and refreshing, but I don’t think I could ever drink a whole bottle in one sitting. I could feel the probiotics going to work immediately and doing something to my stomach.

This drink was not only vegan, but low in calories, gluten-free, lactose-free, dairy-free, and non-GMO. It was also made with certified organic coconut. My rating: ★★★★☆.

Now for GT’s Kombucha…

I also purchased GT’s Enlightened Synergy Grape Chia Drink. It’s ingredients are:

GT’s Organic Raw Kombucha*, Raw Chia Seeds*, Concord Grape Juice*, and 100% Pure Love.

synergyWhen I was looking at my choices, there were very many different flavors of GT’s Kombucha to choose from, not to mention there was the choice of a drink containing chia seeds. I didn’t want to try a flavor I knew I wouldn’t like, so I went the grape chia flavor. I liked this one a little more than the other drink. It was very mild, not as fizzy as a thought. My mother told me the only time she had ever tried kombucha, it tasted like straight vinegar. This made me leery of taking the first gulp. It was not at all what I was expecting. It was very pleasant and I drank the whole bottle in a matter of minutes. I liked the chia seeds in it because I felt it gave texture to the drink and kept the kombucha from being overpowering. I think the grape juice also kept the drink mild and easy to drink.

I could drink this stuff everyday. Especially knowing that it’s filled with organic ingredients and tons of probiotics to keep me healthy and happy. Not to mention that it’s packed with delicious and nutritious chia seeds. Did you know that chia seeds not only have eight times more omega-3’s than you’ll ever find in salmon, but have more antioxidants than blueberries. Talk about a super-food!

Anyways, my rating: ★★★★★. I really could not get enough of this stuff.

So, I hope I encouraged you to try both of these fabulous probiotic drinks. I enjoyed them and I think you will too. You can find them at health food stores like Whole Foods Market (where I got mine) and many other health food stores.

    Ketiva now has a Kombucha and I bought it today and boy I have only drunk a third of the bottle and I cannot continue. I had the same experience trying to drink their Kevita probiotic drink.

      You should only drink about 4 ounces (6 oz. max) of kombucha per day. More than that is not beneficial and could be harmful.

    I tried Kevita because my sister said it helped her digestive issues.
    Having suffered heartburn for several years I was surprised after drinking a 1/2 a cup it vanished.
    I spent the rest of the weekend thinking, “it’s going to come back I know it is”. It hasn’t. When I have eaten something that would normally send me to the medicine cabinet I would feel a little tinge but nothing more.
    So after drinking 1/2 a cup for 3 weeks I still do not get the awful heartburn that would keep me sitting up at night. I drink mine watered down which is like week Koolaide. I do notice that by the end of the week the vinegar taste is stronger but by watering it down I don’t have problem drinking the last of it. One bottle lasts me about a week. I used to have a coconut sensitivities but the coconut water base hasn’t been an issue.
